Dr. L. Marshall Washington became the third president of New River Community and Technical College on March 25, 2013. He previously served as vice president of the Lancaster Campus at Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania. Prior to that position, Washington served as Vice President of Student Services at Kellogg Community College in Michigan.
Washington received his doctorate in educational studies/specialization in educational leadership and higher education from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska; a master's degree in education from Winona State University, Winona, Minnesota, and a bachelor's in elementary education from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio.
He is a 2012 graduate of the Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership. He graduated from the Executive Leadership Institute of the League for Innovation in the Community College in 2009 and from the Future Leaders Institute-Advanced of the American Association for Community Colleges in 2008. He received the TRIO Achiever Award from the Mid-American Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel in 2009.
Washington and his wife, Tonja, have three children: a daughter Lauren, and sons Ethan and Jordan.
