Please note that, starting March 12th, user registration and verification enrollment are required in order to change your password or unlock your account. You only need to register your account once and enroll in at least one (1) verification option to be able to change your password or unlock your account. You can add/remove verification options at any time.
User Registration
How do I register in the password reset tool?
- To enroll, you must know your password, if you do not know your password, please call the IT Solution Center at (231) 591-4822.
- Sign in to MyFSU and click on the “Change Password” icon on the far right.
- Once you click on “Change Password” you will be redirected to a page that asks you to “Complete your enrollment now!”. There are three different verification methods, SMS (text message), email, and Microsoft Authenticator. The first method you can enroll is SMS, after you enroll in SMS you can choose to enroll in either email verification or Microsoft Authenticator. You can enter multiple phone numbers or mail addresses as verification methods.
- Click on the button that says, "Click here".
- You will be taken to a page where you will enter your phone number for SMS (text message) verification. Enter your phone number in the box provided (picture below) and click “Send Code”.
- A text message containing a verification code will be sent to the phone number that you put in. Enter the verification code in the box provided and then click “Verify Code and Continue”.
- After you click “Verify Code and Continue”, you will be taken to the Enrollment page where a pop up at the top of the screen will say “You have successfully enrolled!”.
- From this page, you can enroll in the other methods of verification that are available, Email and Microsoft Authenticator. You have just enrolled in SMS (text message) verification and are pre-enrolled in email verification with your Ferris email.
- If you wish to add more phone numbers, please go to the section of this instruction page named “SMS Enrollment”.
- If you wish to add more email addresses, please go to the section of this instruction page named “Email Verification”.
- If you wish to enroll in the Microsoft Authenticator, please go to the section of this instruction page named “Microsoft Authenticator Enrollment”.
More Methods of Enrollment
SMS Enrollment
- Sign in to MyFSU and click on the “Change Password” icon on the far right.
- If you are already enrolled, it will take you to the “Change Password” tab of the password portal. Click the tab labeled “Enrollment” at the top of the screen. If you have not already enrolled, please go to the section of this instruction page named “How do I register in the Password reset tool?”.
- After you click on the enrollment tab at the top of the screen, click “Add mobile number”.
- A pop up will appear at the top of the screen asking you to enter the phone number you wish to use as another verification method. Enter your phone number is the in the box labeled “Enter mobile number”, then click “Send Code”.
- After you click “Send Code”, a test message containing the verification code will be sent to the phone number that you entered. Enter the verification code in the box labeled “Enter verification code”. Click “Verify Code”.
- If the verification code you entered is correct, the pop up will disappear and the new phone number that you added will be added under the section named “SMS Verification” (picture below).
Email Verification
- Sign in to MyFSU and click on the “Change Password” icon on the far right.
- If you are already enrolled, it will take you to the “Change Password” tab of the password portal. Click the tab labeled “Enrollment” at the top of the screen. If you have not already enrolled, please go to the section of this instruction page named “How do I register in the Password reset tool?”.
- After you click on the enrollment tab at the top of the screen, click “Add Email”.
- A pop up will appear at the top of the screen asking you to enter the email address you wish to use as another verification method. Enter your email address is the in the box labeled “Enter Email address”, then click “Send Code”. (Suggestion: do not use your Ferris email as, if you forgot your password to MyFSU, you also cannot access your email, so you will not be able to access the verification code.)
- After you click “Send Code”, an email containing the verification code will be sent to the email address you entered. Enter the verification code in the box labeled “Enter verification code”. Click “Verify Code”.
- If the verification code you entered is correct, the pop up will disappear and the new phone number that you added will be added under the section named “Email Verification” (picture below).
Microsoft Authenticator Enrollment
- Sign in to MyFSU and click on the “Change Password” icon on the far right.
- If you are already enrolled, it will take you to the “Change Password” tab of the password portal. Click the tab labeled “Enrollment” at the top of the screen. If you have not already enrolled, please go to the section of this instruction page named “How do I register in the Password reset tool?”.
- After you click on the enrollment tab at the top of the screen, click “Set up” under the section named “Microsoft Authenticator”.
- A pop up asking you to install Microsoft Authenticator will appear. This is an app for your phone, find it in the place where you get all your apps for your type of phone, ex. App Store, the Google Play Store, etc.
- After you install this app on your phone, open it and agree to the terms and conditions (if you wish). After that, click the button labeled “Scan a QR code”.
- Scan the QR code that is the in the pop up on your computer screen with the camera of your phone. If your phone successfully read the QR code, the app will take you to a screen that has a one-time password code on it (picture below).
- Enter the one-time password code into the box on the pop up on your computer indicated (picture below) and click “Verify Code".
- If the verification code you entered is correct, the pop up will disappear and the section labeled “Microsoft Authenticator” will tell you that you can use the code generated by the app on your phone to prove your identity (picture below).
How To Reset If You Know Your Password
I need help resetting my password (not verified in a verification method)
- If you do not know your password and have not registered in a verification method, please call the IT Solution Center at (231) 591-4822.
- If you already know your password and want to change your password please follow the instructions for User Registration in the User Registration and Enrolling in Verification Options tab.
- Once you have completed User Registration and enrolled in all your desired verification
methods, click on the tab at the top of the screen that says “Change Password”.
- This will take you to the page where you can change your password. Enter your current
password in the box labeled “Old Password”.
- After entering your current password in the correct box, enter your new password into
the box labeled “New Password”.
- Enter your new password again in the box labeled “Confirm New Password”. Note the
password requirements below the boxes, if your new password does not meet the requirements,
it will not be accepted.
- If your password meets all the requirements, a pop up at the top of the screen will
come up and say, “Password change successful for the following account(s)”. Click
“Close”. Congratulations, you have successfully changed your password!
How do I change my password if I don't remember it and I'm already registered in the password reset tool?
- To use this, you need to have enrolled in a verification method before. If you have not enrolled and do not know your password, please call the IT Solution Center at (231) 591-4822.
- If you have enrolled in verification method, go to the MyFSU login page.
- Click "Forgot password?".
- After you click “Forgot Password?” you will be taken to a page where it asks you to enter your username. Enter it in
the box indicated and complete the CAPTCHA (the wavy letters/numbers) the click “Continue”.
- After you click “Continue”, the next page asks you which method of verification you wish to use. If you have
only enrolled in one method, that will be the only option but if you have enrolled
in more than one, select the one you want to use today and click “Continue”.
- If you selected SMS verification (text message), it will ask you which phone number
you want to use today. Select the one you want and click “Continue”. This will send a code to the phone number that you selected. Enter the code in
the box and click “Continue”.
- After you click “Continue”, a code will be sent to the phone number that you selected. Enter the code in the
box and click “Continue”.
- If you selected email verification, it will ask you which email address you want to
user today. Select the one you want and click “Continue”. This will send a code to the email that you selected. Enter the code in the box
and click “Continue”.
- After you click “Continue”, a code will be sent to the email that you selected. Enter the code in the box and
click “Continue”.
- If you selected Microsoft Authenticator, it will ask you to enter the code that appears
on the app. Enter it and click “Continue”.
- All of these forms of verification lead to the same screen (picture below).
- Enter the new password in the box labeled “New Password”, that you wish to use and
confirm it in the box labeled “Confirm New Password”.
- Note: Notice the password requirements (in the red box). If your new password does not meet these requirements, it will not be accepted.
- If your password meets the requirements, a pop up will say “Password Change Successful”. Congratulations, you have successfully reset your password.
Unlocking your account
I locked my account; how do I unlock my account?
- To use this, you need to have enrolled in a verification method before. If you have not enrolled and do not know your password, please call the IT Solution Center at (231) 591-4822.
- If you have enrolled in verification method, go to the MyFSU login page.
- Click "Account locked?".
- After you click “Account Locked?” you will be taken to a page where it asks you to enter your username. Enter it in
the box indicated and complete the CAPTCHA (the wavy letters/numbers) the click “Continue”.
- After you click “Continue”, the next page asks you which method of verification you wish to use. If you have
only enrolled in one method, that will be the only option but if you have enrolled
in more than one, select the one you want to use today and click “Continue”.
- If you selected SMS verification (text message), it will ask you which phone number
you want to use today. Select the one you want and click “Continue”. This will send a code to the phone number that you selected. Enter the code in
the box and click “Continue”.

the code that appears on the app. Enter it and click “Continue”.

- Click “Unlock Account”. Congratulations, you have successfully unlocked your account.
