ID & Passphrase (Password) Help for Faculty and Staff

  • Please note that, starting March 12th, user registration and verification enrollment are required in order to change your passphrase (password) or unlock your account. You only need to register your account once and enroll in at least one (1) verification option to be able to change your passphrase (password) or unlock your account. You can add/remove verification options at any time.

    User Registration

    1. Go to pwdhelp.ferris.edu
    2. Click "User Registration" (picture below)

    3. Sign in using your Ferris username and passphrase (password) (picture below)Enroll
    4. After signing in, you will be able to enroll your first verification method.

    Enrolling in Verification Options

    1. Sign in using your Ferris username and passphrase (password) (picture below)

    2. Click "Enrollment".  On this screen you can choose to verify your account by email, text, and/or the Microsoft Authenticator app.

    To enroll in email verification, click "Add Email"

    A box will appear where you can enter your personal email address. (picture below)

    After typing in your email address, click "Send Code" to send a verification code to your email.

    Once you receive the code, type the code in the "Enter verification code" area and click "Verify Code". Your email is now enrolled as a form of verification. 

    To enroll in text verification, click "Add mobile number"

    A box will appear where you can enter your cell phone number. (picture below)

    After typing in your cell phone number, click "Send Code" to text a verification code to your cell phone.

    Once you receive the code, type the code in the "Enter verification code" area and click "Verify Code and Continue". Your cell phone is now enrolled as a form of verification

    To be verified using the Microsoft Authenticator app, download the app through your phone's app store.

    Once the app is downloaded, click the pencil icon in the Microsoft Authenticator area on our website. A box will appear with instructions on how to add an account to the app. There will be a QR code on the website that you can scan with the authenticator app once you tap "Other account". (picture below)

    After the app generates a code, type it in and click "Verify Code". You can now use the Microsoft Authenticator app as a form of verification.

    4. Choose which form of verification you would like to receive your verification code and click "Continue". (picture below)

    5. Enter the code that was sent to you and click "Continue".

    6. Enter what you want your new password to be (after you make sure it conforms to our password requirements) and confirm it. Click "Reset Password" to make changes. (picture below)

    4. Choose which form of verification you would like to receive your verification code and click "Continue". (picture below)

    5. Enter the code that was sent to you and click "Continue".

    6. Enter what you want your new password to be (after you make sure it conforms to our password requirements) and confirm it. Click "Reset Password" to make changes. (picture below)

    1. If you know your current password but you just want to change it, use the keyboard shortcut "CTRL + ALT + DELETE" to access the GINA screen. Click "Change a Password" on the GINA screen. (picture below)

    2. On the next screen, enter your current password, the password you want to use, and that same password for confirmation in the corresponding boxes. (picture below)*

      *Note that on your screen, the Change a Password screen will have your Ferris username after Ferris_AD\ and there will be a list of password requirements under the "Reset Password / Unlock Account" button.

    3. When you have a password you are happy with, click the arrow next to the Confirm Password box to make changes.
    1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen, click System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups.

    2. Click Change Password.

    3. Enter your current password in the Old Password field.

    4. Enter your new password in the New Password field, then enter it again in the Verify field. For help choosing a secure password, click the Key button next to the New Password field.

    5. Enter a hint to help you remember the password. The hint appears if you enter the wrong password three consecutive times, or if you click the question mark in the password field in the login window.

    6. Click Change Password.

    6. Once your identity has been successfully verified, click "Unlock Account" to regain access to Ferris systems.
