Automation Welding Lab: Semi-Automatic, Automatic and Robotic Welding Processes

Designed for 200/300 level course work for the instructional development and applications for semi-automatic, automatic and robotic welding & cutting applications. The lab space has the following equipment features:

  • 4,024 square feet of instructional space
  • GMAW robotic work cell systems with coordinated motion (CM), through the are seam tracking (TAST), touch sensing (TS), off-line programming software, nozzle cleaning stations, barrier safety fencing, cell operator control panels
  • Robot mounted 6Kw fiber laser welding & cutting work cell with barrier safety fencing, in-cell mounted video observation cameras, operator control panel, downdraft table ventilation
  • Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) mast & boom systems with AC/DC welding power supplies. One 650 amp and one 1,000 amp power sources
  • Oil & Gas industry Single-head and Dual-head Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) orbital welding system for operator skill and procedure development
  • Student weldment fabrication stations –
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) / Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) – AC/DC, Advanced AC waveform technology
    • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) / Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) – Advanced DC waveform technology with pulsation
  • Down draft ventilation cutting table station for manual OFC and PAC
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) rotational welding system for the processing of sanitary and food grade piping
  • Semi-automatic GTAW horizontal seamer with cold-wire feeder system and rotational lathe-style positioner with cold-wire feeder system
  • Ultrasonic Welding (UW) system for spot welding of foil type material
