Placement Examinations

To take the WebCAPE Test

1. Access the exam online
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a WebCAPE user account.
3. Sign in using your account email and password.
4. Choose one of the available tests (French or Spanish) and click Take Test.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to answer the test questions.
6. When you're done, click the See Score Report button to interpret your score.

Note: If you already have AP, CLEP, or IB credits in French or Spanish, you may skip the WebCAPE and register for the next course in the language sequence (102, 201, 202, 301, 302) after the highest one you have credit for. Example: if you have CLEP credit for SPAN 202, you may register for SPAN 301 or another 300-level course. Contact your orientation advisor or the relevant language coordinator below for help choosing an appropriate course.

If you’re a Spanish speaker who learned the language in your home or community, contact the Spanish Coordinator for placement in an appropriate course such as SPAN 224: Spanish for Heritage Speakers.
