Placement Examinations

If you have studied or learned French or Spanish before, then you need to complete one of the two exams below in order to determine which language level is right for you.

Web-CAPE: The Web-CAPE is a free online exam that you can complete at any time. All you need is about a half hour of uninterrupted time, and an internet connection. This exam is used for placing students in the correct level of French or Spanish. This is a placement exam only, which means that you do not get academic credit hours for any courses that you place out of. Please click here for access to the exam.

CLEP (College Level Examination Program): CLEP exams are proficiency placement examinations that offer college credit. The exams last 90 minutes and carry a cost. For more information about test dates and the CLEP policy at Ferris State University, please click here.

Advanced Placement Examinations (AP Exams): If you took an Advanced Placement language course in high school and took the AP exam, then you may be eligible for academic credit. For more information on the AP exam policy at Ferris State University, please click here.
