If you were selected for the Verification Process, you are required to provide tax documentation from 2022 - whether you filed a tax return or not. The recommended method of verifying tax information is by consenting and transferring tax information into the FAFSA using the IRS Direct Data Exchange tool. Students and their FAFSA contributors - which includes parents, stepparents and student spouses (if applicable), may obtain FSA ID user name and passwords to utilize the IRS Direct Data Transfer of tax information from the IRS. Individuals that did not file tax returns for the base tax year may transfer confirmation of non-filing using the Direct Data Exchange tool.
If you are unable to utilize the IRS Direct Data Exchange Tool, you may obtain an IRS Verification of Non-Filing Letter use this form: IRS Form 4506-T. Please make sure that the Form 4506-T Form that you are using has "June 2023" in the upper left corner, under the form name.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Independent students and parent's of dependent students that did not file taxes must attempt to obtain a letter of non-filing from the IRS to complete the verification process. If you do not receive the Verification of Non-Filing letter within 10 days of submitting your request, please contact the Financial Aid office at 231 591-2110 or [email protected] for further instructions.
