If you plan to attend classes during a Summer semester, it is recommended that you
plan your finances well in advance. Funding for Summer is extremely limited and many
students must rely on alternative loan options to attend Summer classes.
How to determine your summer aid eligibility
-
You must have a 2024 - 2025 FAFSA on file for summer aid consideration. There is no
additional Summer financial aid application.
- You must enroll at least half-time (six credit hours for undergrads) for financial
aid consideration, in most cases.
-
Students that are eligible for Pell Grant may be able to receive a third disbursement
of Pell Grant. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Education and based
on FAFSA SAI and enrollment status.
- Full-time enrollment for summer semester is the same as during the academic year:
full-time = 12 credit hours for undergraduate students; 9 credit hours for graduate
level students.
- Students must enroll at least half-time (6 credit hours for undergraduate students;
5 credit hours for graduate level students) to be eligible for federal student loans.
- Pell eligibility is initially calculated based on full-time enrollment and will be
reduced later, based on actual enrollment as of the close of the drop/add period.
- Eligibility for Michigan Achievement Scholarship requires full-time enrollment and
awards are based on remaining funding that was unused during fall or spring semester.
- We will send you a Summer aid award notice in mid-April or within ten days of registering
half-time if you register after mid-April.
