Testing at DARC

• Students must renew their accommodations for the semester prior to scheduling their test(s) with DARC.
• The student is responsible for discussing testing arrangements with the instructor prior to each test.

Failure on the student's part to provide advance notice may result in the denial of the date and time being requested.

Students have the option of scheduling their test with our office by phone, email, or in person by our office’s closing time of 5:00 PM at least three business days ahead of the requested testing date, or five business days in the case of final exams. Students also have the option of scheduling using the online accommodations portal (accessible through Ferris360) by 11:59 PM at least three business days in advance of the requested testing date, or five business days in the case of final exams. See “Instructions for Using the Ferris360 Portal to Schedule Tests with DARC” in the event of technical difficulties.

• When scheduling, provide the following information:
• Student name or student ID number
• Date and time of the test
• Class - course prefix, number and section (Ex: ENGL 150-001)
• Length of the test given prior to addition of approved accommodations
• Instructor’s name
• Approved accommodations needed, such as a reader, a scribe, a computer, or adaptive technology.

Please note: Instructor’s approval (in hard copy or e-mail) is required to change the test time and/or date.

If the student is requesting to take their test on a different date or at a different time than the class, instructor approval must be given to the student and presented to DARC prior to scheduling their exam.

All tests must be scheduled to finish no later than our office’s closing time of 5:00 PM. Students who are testing for classes that meet later in the afternoon or evening may have to adjust their start time to account for their full allotted exam time, including extended time (if applicable).

Verification of instructor approval must be received by the student and submitted to DARC within the required booking window for scheduling the test. If instructor approval is not submitted to DARC within the required timeframe, the request may be subject to denial.

Students approved for Modified Attendance as an accommodation for the semester have the option of rescheduling a missed test with DARC, whether or not it was originally scheduled with DARC. The student is responsible for discussing the implementation of this accommodation with their instructor as well as coordinating a plan to reschedule their exam with DARC.

• The student is responsible for:
  • Notifying DARC as soon as possible if unable to attend a test appointment. The student is required to obtain the instructor’s permission, in hard copy or e-mail, and submit this to DARC in order to reschedule the test.
  • Observing the institutional standards regarding academic honesty and integrity while testing. In the event that a student is suspected of academic dishonesty, DARC staff will stop the test, record the time, and contact the instructor.
  • Providing any approved testing tools and materials, such as a writing instrument, calculator, scantron, etc., and being familiar with the operation of any approved adaptive technology.
  • Providing their signature at the bottom of the test transmittal form upon test completion.
  • The student is required to silence or turn off cell phones and other electronic devices, including smartwatches. These will be stored in the DARC locked cabinets with any personal effects and study materials that are not authorized by the instructor for use on the test.
• DARC staff is responsible for:
  • Checking in the student, administering, and proctoring the test.
  • Securing student items in the locked cabinets.
  • Following the instructions approved by the instructor for the test.
  • Collecting all test materials, including scratch paper and notes, at the end of the test.
• Check-in for tests will begin no sooner than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the test.
• Food is not allowed in the testing stations unless approved as an accommodation.
• Drinks are allowed in the testing stations. The drink must be contained in a clear bottle, or the student will be asked to open the drinking container to verify its contents.
• Students are expected to be aware of their allotted testing time (i.e., start and end times), which will be written on the provided test transmittal sheet. Small desk clocks are available to students to assist with keeping track of their time. If necessary, DARC staff will issue a 5-minute warning to the student. If the test is still not completed in that time frame, the student may be asked to hand their test in as is.
• If students are late for their scheduled test booking, their time may not be adjusted unless in the event of extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control.
• If students miss their scheduled test booking entirely, instructor permission will need to be received and verified prior to rescheduling the test with DARC.

Log in to student Ferris360 portal at 360.ferris.edu

In the search bar, search for “Schedule a Test with Accommodations” and click on the matching result

This will redirect you to the Accommodations Portal.

Navigate to the Alternative Testing module. Select the course you wish to schedule a test, quiz, or exam for, then click SCHEDULE AN EXAM.

You will be directed to the Online Test Booking

• You will need: the type of test (Test/Exam/Midterm, Final Exam, or Quiz), the date of the test, the start time, and the non-accommodated duration of the test. You then have the option to select which of your approved testing accommodations you are requesting for the test.
• Test booking MUST occur a minimum of three business days before the date to take the test, or five business days before the date in the case of final exams. Once you have filled out the required information, click ADD EXAM REQUEST.
• If the request is submitted with the appropriate advance notice, you and your instructor will receive a confirmation email. You will encounter a submission error if you attempt to schedule your test without the appropriate advance notice.
• You then have the option to schedule additional tests.

If students experience technical difficulty while scheduling their test using the online portal, they should contact our office immediately to report the issue and schedule the test. DARC must have record of the student attempting to contact our office (by phone or email) with the required advance notice.

The online booking portal closes at 11:59 PM three business days in advance of the requested testing date, or five business days in advance of the requested testing date during final exams week – therefore, if students experience technical difficulties outside of our office’s hours of operation, they have the option of calling DARC at (231) 591-3057 and leaving a voicemail or emailing [email protected] so that there is a record of the student attempting to contact DARC prior to the portal closing at 11:59 PM. If the request to schedule a test is received after 11:59 PM on the last day of the booking window, the request may be denied.

This attempt to contact DARC must include the required information for scheduling the test:

• Student name or student ID number
• Date and time of the test
