Move Forward with General Studies
The General Studies Program is a vital steppingstone designed to empower students on their academic journey at Ferris State University. It serves three essential purposes:
- Explore Options: For students who are undecided about their major or career path, this program offers a supportive environment to explore a wide range of academic fields and career possibilities. This exploration phase helps you discover your passions and make informed decisions about your future.
- Prepare for Success: The program provides a smooth pathway for students who meet the university’s minimum admission criteria but are not yet eligible for their chosen degree program. By enrolling in foundational courses — including the Ferris State University Seminar (FSUS 100) — and fulfilling General Education requirements, you will build the skills and knowledge necessary to transition confidently into your preferred program.
- Provide Academic Support: Recognizing that some students may need additional support to maintain college eligibility, the program offers personalized advising and resources to ensure you stay on track toward your goals.
Participating in the General Studies Program means you are not just waiting to declare a major—you are actively preparing yourself with essential university skills, self-discovery opportunities, and comprehensive academic support. It’s a positive, empowering start that paves the way for a successful college experience and beyond.
The General Studies Program is your foundation for academic exploration, preparation, and success at Ferris State University. Whatever your starting point, this program equips you with the tools to move forward confidently and achieve your educational and career aspirations.
