What is a Low Vision Examination?

What is a Low Vision Examination?A low vision examination is generally provided by an optometrist who has the knowledge and necessary diagnostic equipment to both evaluate and offer treatment plans to individuals who are visually impaired or legally blind. Prior to the actual low vision appointment the low vision provider generally requests a vision report from the referring doctor detailing the reason for the low vision consultation. Next, the patient is sent a questionnaire which ultimately provides the low vision practitioner more information about the patient's description of their vision loss and visual goals. The low vision provider's responsibilities are to improve the patient's vision using devices that magnify images at distance, near or both.
