World Sight Day was first introduced by an organization called Lighthouse International. This organization has made it their goal to educate Americans about the prevalence of vision loss. Lighthouse International strives to provide blind or partially sighted individuals with the necessary skills to travel safely, remain working, and cope with vision loss.
The University Eye Center's Low Vision Rehabilitation Service also strives to assist the blind or partially sighted individuals with optical devices to improve their vision. The low vision rehabilitation clinic is equipped with the best handheld, spectacle mounted and electro-optical devices that are available. The clinic also has a stock of devices that a patient may borrow following the initial appointment at the low vision clinic.
