To provide optometric services to Michigan's mentally and physically challenged population, as well as, low vision services to visually impaired / legally blind individuals.

Contact Dr. Kowalski-Meier 6 weeks prior to the first day of the rotation to verify dates, times, directions, parking, specific health test requirements, and any other instructions. Report to the address above at 8:30 a.m. the first day of the rotation for orientation to policies, clinical protocol, administrative procedures, etc.

• To be clinically proficient in diagnostic techniques and learn alternative testing techniques for pediatric and special needs patients
• To appropriately assess and prioritize patient needs and develop plan of care accordingly
• To develop an understanding of the multidisciplinary approach implemented in the care of developmentally disabled children
• To develop a general knowledge of available low vision devices and practical application of same.

• Student intern rotates 1 day a week with Dr. Steven Kocks, who specializes in Vision Therapy and contact lens care. Student intern provides care to primary care patients.
