Professional Expenses

Tuition, Equipment and Books

Tuition

Tuition at the Michigan College of Optometry for the 2016-2017 academic year averages $28,044 for residents and $42,066 per year for non-residents.  (Please read the residency regulations for tuition purposes.)

Michigan College of Optometry will, as of the class entering in the fall of 2017, have one professional tuition rate for all students, no matter the state or country of origin.  This tuition will be within 5% of its current in-state tuition in a program that has among the smallest class sizes and most personal attention to students in the US.

The Doctor of Optometry degree curriculum is 4 years or 10 semesters in length.  Most optometry students receive some form of financial aid, typically as government subsidized loans.  Contact the University's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for details at (231) 591-2110.

Books, Equipment, Housing

Books and equipment are two significant expenses that cannot be overlooked.  They are also important investments.  The books bought will create a personal reference library, and the equipment purchased will be in service both as a student and for years to come.  Because the equipment items are so important, they need to be included in the overall budget, just like tuition.

To provide a rough estimate, attached is the expense sheet for 2023-2024 for the Michigan College of Optometry.  (Note:  all figures are approximations and have been rounded to the nearest dollar.)
