University Graduate and Professional Council

MISSION

The mission of the University Graduate and Professional Council shall be to review and make recommendations regarding all graduate and professional degree policies and procedures, and support excellence in graduate education at Ferris State University. For the purposes of this document, the term “professional” refers to the OD degree and the PharmD degree on this campus.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Review and recommend institutional guidelines for minimum graduate / professional degree program admission and graduation requirements, including certificate programs.
  2. Review and recommend institutional guidelines (not to supersede accreditation requirements) for graduate / professional degree student services and enhance the sense of community of Ferris graduate students, including providing advice and guidance to the Graduate Student Council (and/or graduate student alumni groups).
  3. Review and recommend institutional guidelines (not to supersede accreditation requirements) on graduate / professional degree faculty issues including expectations and qualifications of faculty who teach graduate / professional degree courses.
  4. Research, encourage, facilitate, and support best practices in graduate / professional level teaching, delivery approaches, scholarship, and professional development. 
  5. Serve as a liaison with college graduate / professional degree committees and graduate / professional degree program coordinators regarding institutional guidelines and student services.
  6. Serve as a resource to the University Curriculum Committee, Academic Program Review Council, and program faculty for the development and review of graduate / professional degree curriculum and programs.
  7. Serve as a collaborative partner with the Office of Graduate Studies.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

The committee shall be comprised of the following:

  1. One member drawn from each graduate / professional program, one FLITE librarian, and two at large members.
  2. Ex-Officio members from Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Graduate Studies.

REPORTING PROCEDURE

Recommendations will be sent to the Academic Senate for approval and/or further action.
