Abstract:This collection contains printer proofs of various printings of the Sayings of Woodbridge Ferris between 1983-2009.

Historical Note

This compilation was compiled by Caryl B. Ferguson and Richard S. Santer and published by the Centennial Task Force in 1983. It was reprinted by the Printing program in 1990, 2003 and 2009. The third printing occurred in commemoration of the Woodbridge N. Ferris 150th birthday, January 6, 2003. The fourth printing was made in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Ferris State University in 2009.

Scope and Contents Note

The words of Woodbridge N. Ferris were edited from several documents found in the Ferris State University Archives. Selections cover a period of time from his first day of teaching in New York as a 16-year-old in 1869 to his undelivered speech for the United States Senate which was prepared prior to his death in 1928 in Washington D.C. More information about the quotation sources can be found in the front matter of the book.

Changes in the various printings include the addition of the index and additional front-matter.

This collection is open for research. There are no restrictions on reproduction.

Processing Information Note

The Sayings of Woodbridge N. Ferris Records were processed to the item level by Melinda McMartin Isler in December 2015. A finding aid was prepared in a word processing format and converted to EAD 2.0, utilizing the Archivists Toolkit. A collection level MARC-format record was prepared and placed in the library online public access catalog. Description was based on Describing Archives: A Content Standard (Chicago: Society of American Archivists, 2004).

Acquisitions Note

The printers proofs were donated as part of an inactive records transfer in 2013. When reviewing for destruction in November 2015 by student workers Melinda Jack, Bridget Klaver and Jenna Knizacky, the proofs were pulled from the files and processed into a collection.
