The collection contains a complete run of the publication between 1972-1994.

Historical Note
In June 1972, the first issue of the new Alumni Bulletin was sent out by the Ferris State College Alumni Association. It was very similar in character and scope to the School Bulletin/ Alumni Journal which had served the institution since 1925. Articles in the first issue included a story about retirement of the dean of students, the statistics on job placement for current graduates, sports news and news on alumni, including a section for obituaries.
Max Cooper, from the Department of College Relations (now the News and Communications office) edited the publication. There was not a separate office of Alumni Relations at that period. The publication was 8 pages, and printed in a newspaper tabloid format. Color was introduced into the masthead and in the occasional photograph within the publication.
The publication was replaced in 1994 by the Crimson and Gold following a change to a newsmagazine format.
Scope and Content Note
The Alumni Bulletin serves as the immediate successor to the School Bulletin/ Alumni Journal. That publication had become increasingly focused on communicating information with alumni, rather than potential students or current students. While this publication was originally intended to provide monthly communications, it generally was issued on a quarterly basis.
Topics included in the bulletin include the signed columns by the alumni director and other administrators. There are class notes, a section devoted to athletics and other campus events, and new buildings or staff. Perennial topics are homecoming, the spring reunion and commencement. Much of the publication is dedicated to either information about specific alumni or scheduling information about upcoming and immediately completed alumni events. The publication has a focus on drawing alumni into these events.
The publication is listed as being edited by the college relations office, and later by the Alumni Office. It is unclear who actually wrote all the articles. This collection only contains the final issues, not drafts or correspondence about the running of the publication.

The Alumni Bulletin Records are open for research to all users in accordance with University Archives and Records Management access policies. It is available in the reading room of the Ferris State University Archives.

Provenance (Acquisition Information)
This publication was a created by the Office of Alumni Affairs (which runs the Alumni Association). In fall 2002, a complete set of the publications was transferred from the office to the archives prior to an office move. Some of the issues had been transferred to the archives prior to 1980.
Processing Information
The Alumni Bulletin was processed to the folder level by Melinda McMartin Isler in October 2005. A finding aid was prepared in a word processing format and converted to EAD 1.0. A collection level MARC-21 record was prepared and placed in the library online public access catalog. Technical Requirements
This collection consists of printed publications. No specialized software or hardware is required for viewing. Most pages are 11 x15 page sized which makes copying and scanning difficult.
