First Year Optometry Student
VRI Researcher
Taylor Smith completed her undergraduate studies at Michigan State University, earning a bachelors of science in Human Biology. She was a member of the Lyman Briggs College of Science and the Honors College. During her time at MSU, she worked at a large private optometry practice that allowed her to gain invaluable experience in the career field. She developed a deep interest in pediatrics and binocular vision, as well as contact lenses. Her daily interactions with patients strengthened her confidence that optometry was the correct path for her. In January of 2015, she was able to travel to the island of Dominica on a VOSH mission trip where the team saw over 1,700 patients and dispensed close to 5,000 pairs of glasses over the course of the week. This only deepened her passion for the field and for helping others, and opened her eyes to how much of a difference she could make in someone’s life. Taylor is looking forward to the rest of her time at MCO and becoming involved in the school and all it has to offer. In her free time, she serves as an Alumni Advisor for her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and enjoys being outdoors, watching Spartan Basketball, and cuddling with her dog and kitten.
