Historical Note

The Michigan Medical Records Association was a chapter of the greater American Medical Records Association, which was founded in 1928 by the American College of Surgeons. The goal of the organization was to improve the quality of medical records and to train medical records experts. With the name change to the American Medical Records Association in 1970, there was a shift from hospitals to community centers where records were also kept.

The Michigan Medical Records Association (a chapter of the AMRA) began its bound journal in 1955 and continued at least until 1981. Information within the unpaginated journal included: candidate information, officer and committee memberships, member activities, articles on topics of current interest, and convention information. It is unclear when the journal ceased publication.

In 1991, the American Medical Records Association was renamed the American Health Information Management Association. A chapter of the Michigan Health Information Management Association is still active today. More information about this organization can be found at: http://www.mhima.org/

Scope and Content Note

The Michigan Highlights: Journal of the Michigan Medical Records Association was a typical association newsletter. It contains reports on association activities including board decisions and the annual meeting. Articles are also submitted by members on topics of interest and job information can be found.

This journal is an incomplete run of the Michigan Medical Records Association. It only contains the final journal, not the submissions.
