A Medical Withdrawal is a total withdrawal from Ferris State University for a medical or mental health reason and is initiated by contacting the Registrar's Office. After contacting the Registrar's Office you will need to complete the Request to Withdraw from Ferris State University for Health Reasons form and submit a letter of support from a licensed medical or mental health professional. It is highly recommended that you share the Sample Letter of Support for a Medical Withdrawal with the professional writing your letter.
An approved Medical Withdrawal effective fall or spring semester is a total withdrawal
and if you wish to return
to the University you will need to reapply for admission and financial aid. A registration
hold will be placed on your account, preventing you from registering for future semesters
until the hold is cleared.
Summer semester Medical Withdrawals may or may not affect your fall class schedule
or financial
aid as you are not required to reapply for admission.

An approved Medical Withdrawal results in a registration hold being placed on your student account. The Request to Lift Registration Hold after a Medical Withdrawal form and a separate letter of release from a licensed medical or mental health professional need to be submitted to lift the hold.
A Medical Leave is a short-term need to miss classes due to a medical or mental health necessity as determined by a licensed professional with the intent of completing required coursework and the semester. A Medical Leave does not excuse you from completing coursework and it is your responsibility to communicate with your instructors regarding course requirements. To apply for a Medical Leave you will need to complete the Request for a Medical Leave from Ferris State University for Health Reasons form and submit a letter of support from a licensed medical or mental health professional. It is highly recommended that you share the Sample Letter of Support for a Medical Leave with the professional writing your letter.
