Megan graduated in December 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a minor in Operations and Supply Management, and dual certificates in Lean Systems and Data Analytics.
She currently works as a Continuous Improvement Coordinator for Magna Mirrors, a division of Magna International. Megan serves as the Sustainability and Mafact (Magna's guidelines for World Class Manufacturing) Lead for the Newaygo, MI plant. Megan shares, “My job is to implement lean tools that meet the Magna manufacturing standard and implement sustainable processes that drive our plant to carbon neutrality”.
The OSM and Lean curriculum has played an integral part in Megan’s career. She writes, “It has set me up for success when entering the workplace by providing me with opportunities to apply the lean principles to real-world situations.” We are so glad the programs helped you to be successful at your workplace, Megan.
She adds, “One of the most difficult challenges I have faced while beginning my career is implementing lean tools on a system that fluctuates with the manufacturing world. This program allowed me to experience this by partnering with local businesses to apply our lean knowledge on. The program also gave me opportunities to build relationships with fellow students.”
Megan’s advice for students is, “Take every opportunity to get hands-on experience leading to taking a full-time position. Putting full effort into the semester projects in this program will set students up for success by giving them the knowledge of lean tools such as standard work, A3s, and value stream mapping." She said, "This is a great way to get a feel for implementing lean tools in the workforce. It is also important to take the time to get to know your peers in the program. I have been able to communicate with fellow students outside of the school environment due to my connections made in the program. You never know when you will need guidance, support, or a potential job!”
Great advice, Megan! Thank you for sharing your experiences with the OSM and Lean Systems programs. We are grateful to have you as one of our valued alumni and hope your future endeavors include staying connected with the Ferris State University community!
