But the toilet rooms were not the only problems. Before Old Main had been in use three weeks, a severe rainstorm visited the area.
The roof leaked badly. In every instance the leaks were in the area where the different portions of the roof met. The leaks were so serious they marred the rooms all through the east side of the building.
W.N. Ferris and a plumber marked the leaks with chalk, put pails around to catch the water and waited for the first clear day to make the repairs.
His building had a two-year guarantee on it, and he sent the bill off to the contractor for payment.
