Historical Note

Beginning in fall 1958, President Victor Spathelf required Comptroller John Smith to create a list of gifts from individuals and companies for the Board of Trustees. As a public institution, it was felt that this was appropriate as a recognition both of public contributions and faculty service.

A typical entry includes a name, amount, and brief description of 1-3 sentences. The gifts range from equipment to cash and grant funding. The reports continued throughout the Spathelf presidency (until his retirement in 1970).

Scope and Content Note

This alphabetical listing by donor of gifts is produced annually in accordance with the fiscal year. It is presented from the President to the Board of Trustees. Information includes the names of individuals or companies and the description of the gift and a cash value.

The papers are contained in a single series.
