(HIPAA Act of 1996)
As of April 14, 2003, all health care providers including medical practices like Birkam
Health Center must follow the HIPAA Law passed by Congress back in 1996. HIPAA requires
that we take various precautions and exert certain confidentialities when it comes
to managing your health and medical records.
One of the requirements of HIPAA is to distribute to each patient a Notice of Privacy
Policies (NPP). We are also required to make a good faith effort to obtain your signature
showing that we gave you this Notice. Please see the Notice here on our website. It
is also available in our office lobby.
Since we have always been very strict about the confidentiality of your health information,
you can feel confident that nothing about our professionalism or treatment has changed.
Please read the Privacy Notice at your convenience. If you have any questions or concerns,
please ask your doctor or nurse when you come in to the Health Center, or ask to speak
to our Director, Lindsay Barber, MSA.
