Biography

R.J Tessier has returned to lead the Professional Tennis Management Program at Ferris State University. Before returning to Ferris State, he was the Tennis & Athletic Center Director at Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson, NV.

His numerous private club experiences have included the Racquets Sports Director at the prestigious Bloomfield Open Hunt Club, in Bloomfield, MI. and the Club at Crested Butte, CO. Prior to that RJ was the Director of the Professional Tennis Management Program and GM of the Fitness Center at Ferris State University and a former Tennis Director at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, FL. He later assumed the position as the Director of Membership and Testing / Certification for the United States Professional Tennis Association in Houston, Texas which is now located in Orlando, Fl.
His positions have also included extensive coaching experience as the Men’s Coach for the University of South Carolina (Coastal campus), and Captain of the boys 18 Davis Cup Midwest squad. During his competitive years he played on the New England, Southern, and Florida USPTA Grand Prix circuits. He completed a USPTA/USTA specialist degree in Competitive Player Development and was instrumental in the USTA/USPTA Developmental Coach category during its inception.

He has presented hundreds of seminars and workshops worldwide, including representing the United States at the Japan Professional Tennis Association World Conference. During his tenure with the USPTA he served as host of the award-winning “On Court with the “USPTA” on the Tennis Channel.

He is a former USPTA Southern Professional of the Year, Midwest Professional of the Year and two-time South Carolina Professional of the Year. RJ is certified as a Master Professional in the United States Professional Tennis Association. RJ has wide ranging experience in all aspects of private facility management including the completion of multiple club renovations during his career.
