OSM Alumni Spotlight: Zachery Place - B.S. Operations and Supply Management, Lean Systems Minor, 2016

                                                 

Zachery is a 2016 Operations and Supply Management Major with a Minor in Lean Systems. He currently is working as the Supply Chain Manager for Air-Way Global Manufacturing. Throughout his career thus far, he has been able to utilize many of the lean initiatives and ideas learned throughout his time at Ferris. He notes that he has: Helped to establish Gemba walks in the organization, maintained Kanban orders throughout manufacturing and purchasing departments, and analyzed processes for waste elimination in order to promote and then further add value to processes and products. He writes, "A Professor once told me that there is no such thing as human error but something within the process that is allowing that error to occur. That is something that has always stuck with me." As far as advice, he writes, "Courses through Ferris give you the tools needed to succeed in your desired field. It’s your job to build from these tools and add value within the company. Make yourself indispensable. I cannot stress this enough. Be the person that people come to for answers when situations get tough. Gain as much knowledge as you can within the industry you are working in and use that knowledge to improve not only yourself but the company that employs you. I learn something new every day and the knowledge you gain does not stop after you graduate."
