Nicholas’ story highlights how our alumni are able to acquire great experiences and opportunities as a FSU graduate.
For this week's alumni spotlight we are recognizing Nicholas Huckabay's accomplishments. Nicholas graduated in 2017 with a Business Administration Major, Operations and Supply Management minor and a Lean Systems Certificate. He currently works at Consumers Energy as a Business Analyst. Nicholas writes that the OSM/lean curriculum has allowed him to move through his first logistics job and excel due to lean concepts and terms remembered and utilized throughout his 3 years. He also writes that, "More recently I have been utilizing lean techniques within Consumers Energy that are newer to the company but act as a refresher as I am able to assist those with little to no lean experience. " He has used tools learned at Ferris such as: Identifying/ eliminating 7 Wastes, Continuous Improvement techniques and practices, Value Stream Maps, and many more. Nicholas notes that his knowledge of these tools has helped him "implement new processes in a previous job and would allow me to be involved in higher level projects from the start."
Nicholas shared that the first year of balancing school, with being a student athlete at FSU, was the hardest, but it became easier. “Just stick with it! There are various resources to help student athletes, inside AND outside the athletic department”.” Some advice he feels would be beneficial to future OSM and Lean students would be to keep being persistent with your education journey, take the opportunity to develop relationships with your professors, but more importantly, have fun and relax.
Thank you for the experiences you shared with us, Nicholas. We hope that your future interests include staying connected and engaged with the Ferris community!
