Ferris State University Faculty and Student Presents Multiple Research Papers at the International Telecommunications Conference in Egypt

September 1, 2022

Thursday, July 28th, 2022, Ferris State University professors, Dr. Mohamed Abusharkh, and Dr. Yong Xu, along with Digital Media Software Engineering senior, Evan Wilson, virtually presented three research papers at the International Telecommunication Conference rooted in Alexandria, Egypt.

The papers presented were a result of internal collaboration at FSU, in addition to colleagues of Dr. Abusharkh and Dr. Xu within their research fields at other universities. The work these scholars completed enhances Ferris State Universities footprint in the Autonomous Vehicle field and furthers the universities likelihood to expand into graduate level courses of this field.

“Methods for Generating Data Sets and Training Cascade Classifiers Using OpenCV” was published by Evan Wilson (Ferris State University), Mohamed Abusharkh (Ferris State University), and Yong Xu (Ferris State University). This is Wilsons first paper to be published, as he worked diligently on the innovation development grant project, developing his own data-set generating technique.
The other papers presented were:

“An Analysis of the Effects of Hyperparameters on the Performance of Simulated Autonomous Vehicles.” By Maimoonah Ahmed (University of Western Ontario), Abdelkader Ouda (University of Western Ontario), and Mohamed Abusharkh.

“DeepRacer Model Training for Autonomous Vehicles on AWS EC2.” By Junyao Li (Northeastern University), Mohamed Abusharkh, and Yong Xu.
