What You Should Know

  • The Radiography program at Ferris is one of the largest and best-known programs in the state.
  • Didactic portion of the program is completed on the Big Rapids campus during the first year.
  • Students on campus will be trained on 4 energized X-ray rooms , portable, C-arm, Computed Tomography, and PACS prior to internship.
  • Clinical internship is completed during the last three semesters of the program.

What Radiographers Do

  • Radiographers are healthcare providers that are eligible to take the ARRT exam and be licensed in the profession
  • The responsibilities of a Radiographer include the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care that is bases on the needs of the patient.
  • Radiographers produce x-ray films (radiographs) of parts of the human body to assist a physician in diagnosing medical problems. Daily exams may include: fluoroscopy, contrast studies, surgery, portables, and emergency procedures
  • Experienced radiographers may perform more complex imaging tests, such as CT, MRI, mammography, angiography, and surgical procedures.

Employment prospects/Salaries

Radiologic technologists operate sophisticated equipment to help physicians, dentists and other health practitioners diagnose and treat patients. Workers in related occupations include nuclear medicine technologists, cardiovascular technologists, medical sonographers, and vascular technologists.

Other Information

The first year of the program is on Big Rapids Campus. Students are required to attend classes and labs for Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters in Big Rapids.

During the second year of the program students will complete their internship. Students should be aware that internship is 40 hours a week for three semesters. Internship hours are primarily day shift, but students may be required to work off shifts. Students should be aware that they may be required to work up to 2 weeks of afternoon shifts and 2 weekends for Fall, Spring and Summer semester during the second year of internship. Students should also be aware that they may need to relocate for clinical internship.
