Biography

I came to Ferris in 2018 after retiring as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Paducah Police Department (KY). I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University (1998), a Master's degree from Norwich University in Justice Administration (2010), and my PhD in Criminology & Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University in 2019. Over nearly 20 years in law enforcement, I completed many leadership courses, including being a graduate of the 255th Session of the FBI National Academy (2014). As part of my work at the FBI National Academy, I received a Graduate Certificate from the University of Virginia in Criminal Justice Education.

My undergraduate teaching includes: juvenile delinquency, ethics, police & society, and crime control policy. At the graduate level, I teach human resource management and quantitative inquiry.

I am an active researcher studying issue of police culture, organizations, and legitimacy, as well as individual motivations and fit in criminal justice organizations.

I currently serve on the executive board of the Midwestern Criminal Justice Association, and I am a member of ACJS and ASC. I am the IRB Chairperson at Ferris State, and serve on the College of Business Assessment Committee.
