Biography

Michael Janz is the Assistant Director of the Professional Tennis Management (PTM) program at Ferris State University. A 2014 graduate of Ferris State’s PTM program, Janz has built a diverse career in tennis instruction, performance analytics, player development, and higher education leadership. He is dedicated to preparing future racquet sports professionals through experiential learning, industry engagement, and professional development opportunities.
Janz holds an Elite Tennis Professional certification through the Racquet Sports Professionals Association (RSPA) as well as Cardio Tennis and Love Serving Autism certifications. His broad industry experience provides students with valuable insight into the many career pathways available within the tennis and racquet sports industry.
Following graduation, Janz served as Director of Tennis at the Alpena Events Complex in Alpena, Michigan, and later as Assistant Tennis Professional at the Saginaw Athletic Club in Saginaw, Michigan. In these roles, he developed and managed junior and adult programming, instructed players of all ages and skill levels, and helped grow community engagement in tennis.
Before returning to Ferris State in 2018, Janz worked as a Match Analyzer and Site Director for Tennis Analytics, where he provided detailed match data and performance analysis for ATP and WTA professional players as well as more than 50 NCAA Division I college tennis programs. His work also included traveling throughout North America to film and analyze some of the top junior tennis events in the sport, including the Junior Orange Bowl, USTA Southern and USTA Midwest Closed Championships, and Tennis Canada Junior Nationals.
Janz returned to Ferris State in 2018 and served as Interim PTM Director from 2020 to 2023. In his current role as Assistant Director, he focuses on strengthening industry partnerships, expanding student career opportunities, and continuing the tradition of excellence within the PTM program. In addition, he is an Assistant Tennis Professional at the Ferris State Racquet & Fitness Center, primarily teaching middle school tennis. He remains passionate about mentoring students and helping them build successful careers in the racquet sports industry.
