Lean Systems Minor

The Lean Systems minor provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to improve processes and performance across a wide range of industries. Students will learn core lean principles including value stream mapping, continuous improvement (PDCA), workplace organization (5S), standardized work, pull systems, leveling, A3 reporting, and root-cause problem solving. Coursework also introduces Six Sigma methodologies, lean culture and leadership, lean logistics, and lean accounting.

Hands-on experiential projects with industry partners allow students to apply theory to real operational challenges. Graduates of this minor bring highly valued capabilities that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve organizational performance. Career opportunities span logistics, operations management, quality and production control, purchasing, training and development, and more, in settings such as manufacturing, healthcare, banking, and nonprofit organizations.
