Biography

Dr. Holcomb received her B.S.W. from Madonna University and holds her M.S.W. (Clinical Concentration) from Michigan State University, and her D.S.W. from the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Holcomb specializes in the area of children and family and spent eight years in the child welfare arena in a variety of capacities. Dr. Holcomb's clinical experience includes providing outpatient services to those with substance use and mental health disorder diagnoses, as well as engaging in therapeutic interventions with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Dr. Holcomb's research is focused on formal mentorship within higher education and its impact as well as field education issues such as equity, inclusivity, and student preparedness/support. Dr. Holcomb is also an Assistant Professor and the Distance Learning Program Coordinator for Madonna University in Gaylord. Dr. Holcomb has presented on topics such as secondary traumatic stress, secondary trauma in child welfare organizations, how to effectively support older foster youth, avenues of support for families impacted by substance abuse, trauma and the brain, crisis management and effective placement strategies in child welfare, formal faculty mentorship, equity and inclusivity within field placements, and anti-racist pedagogical practices within mentoring relationships. Dr. Holcomb is the Director of Field and primarily teaches the child welfare courses, the field orientation course, and serves as a MSW capstone mentor.
