Biography

Dave Schrock, M.A. is a Professional Advisor for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. He advises Integrative Studies, Liberal Arts, Social Work, and other majors and minors housed within the English Literature and World Languages, Humanities, and Social and Behavioral Sciences Departments respectively. He currently serves as the MyDegree (Degree Works) Software Liaison for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education and teaches several sections of the Ferris State University Seminar course (FSUS 100).

His advising philosophy focuses on identifying student needs, providing assistance to improve learning and motivation, and facilitating connections to helpful campus resources as needed. His goal is to assist his advisees to be successful scholars, informed citizens, and well-rounded adults. He won the 2020 Outstanding Academic Advising Award and the 2022 Student Affairs Partner Award.

Dave’s outreach activities are closely related to his advising. He served as a group leader at a children’s bereavement camp (Camp Live, Laugh, Love) for 8 years. During that time, he recruited FSU Social Work and Psychology majors to volunteer at the camp. Both his advisees and the children they help benefitted greatly from the experience.

As a Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication at Ferris State from 2006 to 2014, he taught Broadcast Writing (COMM 385), Fundamentals of Public Speaking (COMM 121), Interpersonal Communication (COMM 105), and Small Group Decision Making (COMM 221) courses and earned the Honors Program Professor of the Year for the 2011-2012 academic year.
