Placement Requirements for English and Math Courses

To enroll in English and math courses through the Dual Enrollment Dual Enrollment Program, students must meet specific placement requirements to ensure readiness for college-level coursework. Placement can be determined using standardized test scores or high school academic performance.

English Course Placement:

  • ENGL 150 (English Composition): Students can be placed into ENGL 150 through one of the following methods:
    • Standardized Test Scores: Achieving a minimum score of 600 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT.
    • High School Grades: For students without SAT/ACT scores, an average grade of 'B' (85 out of 100; 3.0/4.0) or better in high school English courses may qualify for placement into ENGL 150.

Math Course Placement:

  • MATH 110 (Intermediate Algebra): Placement can be achieved by:
    • Standardized Test Scores: A minimum SAT Math score of 400.
    • High School Grades: Successful completion of MATH 010 with a grade of C- or better.
  • MATH 115 (Quantitative Reasoning): Placement can be achieved by:
    • Standardized Test Scores: A minimum SAT Math score of 500.
    • High School Grades: Successful completion of MATH 109 or MATH 110 with a grade of C- or better.

High school grades are only used to meet placement if the student does not have PSAT or SAT scores. These placement criteria ensure that students are prepared for the academic challenges of college-level English and math courses. It's recommended that students consult with their high school counselors or a Dual Enrollment advisor to determine the best pathway for meeting these requirements.

Please consult with your high school counselor to understand the specific placement criteria.
