Dual Enrollment Terms and Definitions

To support clarity and consistency across our school and university partners, we use the following shared definitions within the Dual Enrollment Program. A more detailed Program Guide is available for reference as needed.

Transcripted Credit: Official college credit recorded on a student’s permanent Ferris State University transcript. Grades earned become part of the student’s college academic record.

Registration Request: Submission of a student roster or drop/add form begins the review process but does not guarantee enrollment. Final registration depends on student eligibility, seat availability, instructor approval when required, minimum enrollment, and institutional review.

Concurrent Enrollment: College courses taught at the high school or career tech center by an approved instructor using Ferris curriculum, assessments, and academic oversight.

Instructor of Record: The Ferris-approved individual responsible for course delivery, grading, and compliance with university academic standards.

Affiliate Instructor: A qualified high school instructor approved to teach concurrent enrollment courses under Ferris oversight. Affiliate instructors are not Ferris employees.

Drop and Add Period: The published timeframe at the start of the semester during which schedule adjustments may be made without tuition charges, according to Ferris deadlines.

W Grade (Withdrawal): A grade assigned when a student officially withdraws after the drop/add period but before the published withdrawal deadline. A W does not affect GPA but remains on the college transcript.

CTE Articulated Credit: College credit awarded through an approved articulation agreement for students who complete a qualifying Career and Technical Education program and meet established criteria.

District Authorization: Formal approval by the school or district for student participation and financial responsibility under the Dual Enrollment Program.
