National Summer Transportation Institute

The National Summer Transportation Institute has been cancelled for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID.

High school students (ages 14–17) are encouraged to apply for this one-week camp sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the Michigan Department of Transportation and Ferris State University. Students from around the state will head to the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids and the Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) campus in Traverse City for a week of transportation related learning and fun!

Activities to include:

• Making and breaking concrete cylinders
• Making asphalt samples
• Completing MDOT Trac Bridge module
• Touring Team Elmers Facilities
• Touring U.S. Coast Guard station
• Touring Cherry Capital Airport Operations
• Learning about aviation at Cherry Capital Airport FFA Tower
• Learning about water transportation through a sailing excursion
