Determined Dawgs Student Success Program

The Determined Dawgs Student Success Program is a a program designed to support first-generation, academically underprepared and under-resourced  students. Through mentorship programming and proactive advising, we will work to help support all participants throughout their time at Ferris State University.

What is the Determined Dawgs Student Success Program?

Ferris students are determined and resiliant. The Determined Dawgs Student Success program is designed to support students throughout the college journey. The program is a mixture of one on one mentorship, community connection and skillbuilding that is helpful throughout college.
 
Our main program goals will help students achieve the following:
  • Connection to academic support services such as Disability and Academic Resource Center, the Tutoring Center and the Writing Center, 
  • Advancement toward degree progress, 
  • Acceptance into colleges and desired majors,
  • Increased persistence, retention and graduation rates.

How will you benefit from DDSS?

  • Receive individualized support to help you reach your academic and career goals and get you a clear path to graduation.
  • Tap into many Determined Dawgs Success resources including tutoring, study tables, community engagement, cultural enrichment, and professional development.
  • Get support and guidance from your Pack Leader/mentor.

How to participate

You are eligible to participate in the Determined Dawgs Student Success Program if you are:

  • Economically disadvantaged and/or Academically underprepared,
  • First-generation college student,
  • Resident of the State of Michigan

This program is funded by a six year select Student support Services (4S) grant which is administered via Michigan’s  Work Force Development Agency and the Kings-Chavez-Parks initiative (KCP).  The goal of the KCP Initiative is to increase the number of Michigan's academically- or economically disadvantaged citizens who have the opportunity to complete college degrees and experience career success as active participants in a knowledge-based global economy.
