What support system or mentors did you have in college?
Academic Advisor, Dean's Office
What is something that you know now, that you wish you knew when you were in college?
I wish I would have been more assertive in reaching out for assistance and asking
more questions. Although my academic ability was great, but my financial resources
were limited and instead of contacting the financial aid office to inquire about options;
I chose to leave the current institution. Connecting with positive role models is
very important.
What advice do you have for a first-generation college student pursuing a degree at
Ferris?
Communication is instrumental. Ask questions. College can be intimidating and you
may not know where to start; but talk to someone. Class attendance is critical; don't
be influenced by others who may not take college seriously. Sign up for a mentor program
for encouragement and advice. Keep your circle of friends who are positive and peers
with goals to complete their college degree. Meet your academic advisor and follow
the academic plan that is structured for your progress.
