Pachymetry

A pachymeter is a device that uses ultrasound to determine the thickness of the cornea in a given location. This technique is crucial to determine the corneal measurement prior to certain refractive surgical procedures, such as LASIK where tissue is removed from the cornea. Pachymetry is also an essential tool to determining the accuracy of the intraocular pressure measurement used in glaucoma detection.
