Collaborative Efforts Bring Community Health Fair Opportunities to Ferris’ Interdisciplinary Resource Center April 4

Community Health Fair

Ferris State University’s College of Health Professions is soliciting support from across campus and local healthcare experts to present a Community Health Fair Tuesday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Interdisciplinary Resource Center lobby. The virtual health care provides additional resources Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7.

Students and staff of Ferris State University’s health-related academic programs will be joined by professionals from across campus and the greater community Tuesday, April 4, during the Community Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Interdisciplinary Resource Center Connector.

Professor Tracy Glentz, in Core Health Sciences from the College of Health Professions, said peers in her college’s programs are preparing their students for this experiential learning opportunity, as are other campus colleges.

“We want those students who have a hand in healthcare operations and assistance to take part each year so that we can provide real benefit to the campus and our community,” Glentz said. “Our Nursing students will be on hand for the fair, with many from the Michigan College of Optometry and representatives of Ferris’ College of Pharmacy. In addition, we welcome the support of the professionals at Birkam Health Center and District Health Department #10, as they provide a variety of health-related expert resources.”

Various informational poster displays on healthcare topics will be available, along with healthcare screening for best practices in dental care, dietary instruction and staffers doing outreach on domestic violence initiatives. Glentz said these benefits can be accessed by people of all ages and the Ferris campus community.

“Our virtual health fair is designated to run on Thursday, April 6, and Friday, April 7,” Glentz said. “That resource will be available for some time after the fair so that people can reference the information at their convenience.”
