Biography

Dr. Warner is an Associate Professor of Spanish and French in the Department of English, Literature, and World Languages. He started teaching in 1999 and has been at Ferris since 2009. He also currently serves as a Faculty-in-Residence for the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.

Dr. Warner regularly teaches all levels of language and culture courses in the Spanish for the Professions program, as well as basic French. He is the co-director for Ferris’ annual Study Abroad program to Costa Rica. Among his areas of interest are film and literature productions from the immigrant and exile perspective, especially when taking into account globalization’s impact on marginalized populations.

Dr. Warner was the lead Coordinator for the launch of the Spanish for the Professions major, which was created on a platform of promoting social justice and equity by creating a more bilingually competent workforce in all facets of society while at the same time providing the global competencies for students to work, volunteer, intern or travel with greater impact and understanding of the local people, economies, socioeconomic dynamics, culture, and history.

Aside from Ferris, he was a former interpreter and translator for the Telamon Corporation, which operates the Michigan Migrant Head Start program and National Farmworkers Jobs Program serving thousands of farmworkers and their family members annually. This connection with the community has proven key to developing new coursework in the program to foster a welcoming environment for all while also providing quality skills for a domestically and globally diverse workplace.

Dr. Warner was the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Teacher Award at Ferris State University.
