The English Literature examination has a 90-minute time limit. It contains 95 multiple-choice
questions.
The exam focuses on the areas of
- literary background
- authors
- literary references
- literary terms
- metrical patterns.
Students should consider attempting this exam if they
- are familiar with and understand major writers from Beowulf to the present
- have knowledge of literary periods, common literary terms, themes, and forms
- can identify authors of quotations
- can recognize the period in which an excerpt was written.
Computer-based Scoring: CLEP computer-based (CBT) exams are scored without a penalty for incorrect guessing. The raw score--the number of correct responses--is translated into a scaled score. The scaled scores for CLEP CBT are reported in a range from 20 to 80.
At Ferris, candidates taking the English Literature exam must score a 50 or higher on the multiple-choice section.
