Analyzing and Interpreting Literature

The Analyzing and Interpreting Literature examination contains 80 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 90 minutes.

Students should consider attempting this exam if they have a broad knowledge of literature through reading widely and if they are familiar with basic literary terminology. This examination focuses on

  • poetry
  • prose (fiction and nonfiction)
  • drama
  • British literature
  • American literature
  • works in translation
  • classical and pre-renaissance
  • renaissance and 17th century
  • 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Computer-based Scoring: CLEP computer-based (CBT) exams are scored without a penalty for incorrect guessing. The raw score--the number of correct responses--is translated into a scaled score. The scaled scores for CLEP CBT are reported in a range from 20 to 80. Ferris State University grants credit for a score of 50 or higher.

At Ferris, candidates taking the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature exam must score a 50 or higher on the multiple-choice section.
