The Martin Luther King, Jr. • César Chávez • Rosa Parks Visiting Professors Program was created by the Michigan State Legislature in 1986 as part of the larger KCP Initiative, designed to stem the downward spiral of college graduation rates for students underrepresented in postsecondary education.
The purpose of the VP Program is to increase the number of instructors in the classroom to provide role models for academically or economically disadvantaged students. The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Workforce Development provides oversight and technical assistance to the KCP Visiting Professors Program.
Departments or programs interested in inviting a speaker to campus to discuss research or topics not covered by our current faculty are encouraged to apply for funding through the KCP Visiting Professor program in the Office of Multicultural Student Services. This program requires prior approval and can provide up to 50% matching funds for travel, lodging, and stipends, up to a maximum of $2,000, if approved. The sponsoring department or program must provide the other 50% of the funding.
Please contact the Office of Multicultural Student Services at [email protected] for guidelines, application instructions and application.
