Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

MONDAY, January 19, 2026:

• Social media campaign introducing our “Beloved Community of Allied Voices” theme and our calendar of events for the week.  

TUESDAY, January 20, 2026 :

• Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm  
• Location: Rankin Stage into History Lounge & Ballrooms A&B 
• Purpose: Participate in the march, lead by the FU Pep Band and return to the ballrooms for our guest speaker and FSU choir and singer Avalon Cutts-Jones performances. The theme for the guest speaker is to define and speak about Dr. King’s quote, “Beloved Community.” Refreshments will be served.  

WEDNESDAY, January 21, 2026

• Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm  
• Location: Ballrooms A&B 
• Purpose: The discussion panel will move beyond the traditional focus solely on Martin Luther King Jr. as an individual and broaden the lens to celebrate the diverse coalition of allies who were integral to the Civil Rights Movement. By highlighting the contributions of Blacks, Hispanics, Whites, and people of various faiths, the event will underscore Dr. King's vision of the "Beloved Community" - a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and the love of one's fellow human beings. 

THURSDAY, January 22, 2026  

• Time: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm  
  • Cooking and Setup: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm 
  • Community Service:
  • Banquet Dinner Time: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm 
• Location: West Campus Community Center  
• Purpose: This event transforms Dr. King’s philosophy of our “Beloved Community” into practice. Our guest of honor will be about 45 individuals from our greater community. Students will earn community service hours by organizing basic needs items in the hours leading up to the banquet. Students will also join staff in the community center to cook the meal our guest of honor will enjoy.  Once the food is complete, our guests will arrive and have a lovely sit-down meal while having a conversation. The conversations will be led by the MLK quotes that promote conversations of what the "Beloved Community" means.
