The Ferris Indian Tuition Waiver and aid from the Bureau of Indian Affairs are available to American Indian students attending Ferris State University. Any student who is 25% North American Indian and qualifies for admission as a full or part-time student and who has been a legal resident of the state of Michigan for at least 12 consecutive months may apply. Credit for the tuition waiver can not be given until a verification letter from the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan has been received in the financial aid office. This can be a lengthy process, so the student should be prepared with alternate funding methods. If you have difficulty establishing Indian blood quantum, contact the financial aid office for a list of authorized certifiers of tribal affiliation for Michigan tribes.
