Master of Science in Nursing - Admission Requirements

New Student Admission Requirements

  • Completed application for admission. 
  • Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree with an overall GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale). 
  • Hold licensure as a Registered Nurse; Michigan licensure or eligibility. 
  • Have clinical nursing experience; recommended two (2) years of experience. 
  • Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Ferris graduates need not submit transcripts for coursework completed at Ferris. 
  • Submit a current, professional resume or curriculum vitae. 
  • Submit a 1-2-page letter of intent stating your professional goals and how the MSN program can assist you in meeting your goals. RN to MSN candidates may submit their RN to MSN Service-Learning synthesis paper. 
  • Request two (2) professional references from individuals familiar with academic or professional backgrounds and can provide an assessment of the applicant’s current work quality and ability to complete graduate education successfully. 
  • International students whose first (native) language is not English need to have English proficiency test scores sent directly from the testing agency to demonstrate meeting the Ferris standards for English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo).
Provisional Admission may be granted in cases where selected admission criteria have not been demonstrated. The Graduate Program Coordinator will make recommendations to the Chair of the School of Nursing, whose approval is required. If provisional admission is granted, the student must complete nine (9) semester hours of graduate work with a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) or clear any deficiencies to qualify for regular admission.

These requirements also apply to Transfer Students.
