Six Tips for Career Fair Success
Ferris is hosting its annual Career and Internship Fair on Thursday, February 21. With almost 200 employers in attendance, you will have plenty of opportunity to engage with some of the area's top organizations.
Here are six tips to help make sure you're ready to impress.
If you're unable to make it to the fair, these tips will also be a big help when you're preparing for you next big interview.
1. Do Your Research
Learn a little bit about each company you want to meet. It will give you some talking points and allow you to ask specific questions. Download The Fairs App on your phone to see all the participating companies.
2. Make a Plan
Map out your route with the interactive map on The Fairs App. There is no way you’ll be able to visit every single company so make sure you plan where you want to go. Save the companies you’re most interested in for the end, after you’ve become more comfortable.
3. Practice
If you’ve never been to a career fair, or even if you have, it can be overwhelming. Think about answers to some common questions to help you be more prepared. The Big Interview is a website that allows you to not only get some practice interviewing, but will also give you feedback to make sure you’re ready.
4. Update Your Resume
You’ll have plenty of opportunity to pass out your resume. Make sure it is up to date and looking great (and don’t forget to bring plenty of copies)!
5. Dress the Part
Treat the career fair as if you’re going to an interview. Make sure your clothing reflects the professional you are. If you’re not sure what to wear or need some assistance, the First Lady’s Attic, located in the University Center, can help you find something that is right for you!
6. Follow-Up
We’re sure you will have many great conversations. Follow-up with employers to thank them for their time, remind them who you are and express your interest in the opportunities they offer!
