Passion for Music Brings Honor to Information Security and Intelligence, Music Entertainment Business Student

Sean Prusko

Ferris State University Information Security and Intelligence and Music and Entertainment Business dual Major Sean Prusko, an East Kentwood High School alumnus, received high-end mixing software and studio monitors for his second-place entry in a mixing contest offered by skiomusic.com, a globally significant music technology portal.

Information Security and Intelligence Student Sean Prusko’s love of music brings him confidence and rewards. The East Kentwood High School alumnus recently placed second in a remix contest that earned him high-quality mixing software and studio monitors.

His remix of “So Into You” by singer-songwriter Tayla Parx is the second successful contest entry this academic year. Prusko is pursuing a dual major in Music and Entertainment Business and Information Security and Intelligence.

Paul Kwant, the program coordinator for Music and Entertainment Business, said the skiomusic.com award is significant and indicative of Prusko’s skill as a creator.

“He was the only entrant from the United States to place in this competition,” Kwant said. “As our first dual major in Music and Entertainment Business and Information Security and Intelligence, Sean has embraced learning, with his introspection and analytical aptitude making him a unique student.”

Prusko earned his first notice by creating a disco remix of dance vocalist and producer Danny Quest’s “Love,” but said his more recent garage remix of the Parx song brings experience and an added conviction to pursue this specialized role.

“It has been really exciting, kind of validation of all the work I have done,” Prusko said. “The new equipment from this latest competition will be very nice, but the recognition that my skills are held in high regard is most satisfying.”

Greg Gogolin, the Information Security and Intelligence program coordinator, said Prusko came to him to discuss the pursuit of a dual major. This move connected Prusko with several Information Security and Intelligence faculty.

“Instructors like Molly Cooper, Jerry Emerick and Jasun Hawkins are active as members of musical groups or professional voice talent, so the idea is not foreign to us,” Gogolin said. “Sean and I spoke of the significant obligation he was taking on by pursuing the dual major. Having a passion for music is not much different from the outlets that other cybersecurity students have to broaden their interests and abilities. We certainly understand and support such intentions and effort.”

“I had been aware of our faculty’s interests and talents,” Prusko said. “I gave my Information Security and Intelligence studies my all. When the greater free time presented itself, I decided to use what MEB offers to pursue my passion for music and streaming.”
