Michigan College of Optometry Spring Open House April 15 to Welcome, Inform Diverse Audience

MCO Open House

The Michigan College of Optometry Open House, at Ferris State University, is set for Saturday, April 15

Michigan College of Optometry faculty and student ambassadors plan to host an open house on Saturday, April 15, in concert with Ferris State University’s office of Admissions and Financial Aid’s “Dawg Days” campus visits for prospective students.

The open house is from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is a resumption of seasonal opportunities to explore and learn about the college approaching its 50th anniversary, according to MCO Professor and Coordinator of Student Recruitment James Miller.

“We are the only college of optometry in Michigan, one of only 23 in the United States,” Miller said. “It is very good to be returning to our open house schedule, as this is our first event since the COVID-19 outbreak.”

Student ambassadors lead tours of the Michigan College of Optometry, and Miller said their guests come to campus with a wide range of experiences and perspectives.

“This is an important opportunity to provide some acclimation to those who have a real interest in our field,” Miller said. “I have seen diverse audiences at our open house sessions for years, from junior high students to working professionals, and there are often Ferris undergraduate students continuing to explore career options. They are highly motivated to learn about and engage with our students and faculty.”

Miller will also lead a presentation and question-and-answer session for the open house program.

“Guests can notify us of their interest in the event,” Miller said. “I welcome emails to receive student contact information so we might keep close touch with those interested in our college.”

Miller said open house guests are welcome, whether they begin the day in the Dawg Days program through Ferris admissions or only take part in the afternoon event. For more information, contact the Michigan College of Optometry at (231) 591-3700 or by email.
